The instagram thing is annoying. Like the primary to find out about social events in my city seems to be Instagram. Yoga teachers post their schedules there, bars/venues post their events there, reddit is often an afterthought and still I'd prefer something else. But what??

Listings and audience.

With rpki, you sync from sources you may not trust AIUI.

Re: 3: oh, and we just spent 4 years depriving new grads of experience needed to deliver these results, and a wave of genx and boomer retirements are incoming.

I was lucky enough to graduate in 2006. Even with the downturn around 2008 my early career went pretty well because there was a massive crash in CS interest in 2001 and I was in a fairly tiny cohort of programmers.

They only started measuring in 2005. I wouldn't consider 10% low tbh.

Google IPO 20 years ago, Tesla 15 years ago, facebook almost 15 years ago.

Situations change.

"This time it's different", right?

When did they change? 3 years and 4 months ago? 1 year ago? 8 years?

Because when Facebook IPO'd everyone was saying the stock market was a dumping ground...

Same with Google...

Same with Pets.com and WebVan...

Sometimes when things change in an insidious manner, it’s hard to point out _when_ the decline started.

Few Pheonix(s) rise from the ashes of many Unicorns.

Maybe but can you elaborate what the changes are?

git reset --soft HEAD~1

Uh, how is this an overblock? It is literally a destructive command. No way I want an LLM agent rewriting my commit history. What if that commit was already pushed to a protected branch?

Why do you call it destructive? It rewrites history only locally and reversibly (the disappeared commit is still in reflog and can be recovered with another reset) and also doesn't destroy uncommitted changes, so it's quite safe. You can only lose data with it by resetting an unpushed commit and then waiting long enough to let the unreferenced commit be garbage collected.

Commit history is data. I might not realize what happened until the gc happens.

Authorship also has significance for copyright law.

Yeah but why would anyone pay $600k for a car just to not look like they are having a midlife crisis?

Some people exist in another financial dimension  Bentleys and rolls royces for example don't scream midlife crisis and this is a bit closer to that by comfort apparently

I read the title and thought "BSD folk must be in shambles". Glad it is not as shortsighted as I originally thought.
