Both sides had their "worst" candidate, but in different ways. One of them was a convicted felon.

Democrats will continue to lose while they revel in their corruption by putting forward selfish candidates that are least likely to win.

Convicted rapist

That’s not what he was convicted of, though?

No, true. He was "just" adjudicated in a court of law to have committed rape.

If you haven't seen Stargate SG-1, it was one of the greatest shows. I would rather rewatch it than watch a bad remake. Stargate Atlantis was not half bad either.

They will likely hire the cheapest script writer, who in turn will likely offload it to the cheapest LLM, resulting in derivative work that is not in any way creative or inspiring.

Yea I watched stargate SG-1 and can confirm that plenty of media released post covid is not only half as great, but a good deal better.

Like what (in sci-fi)? Not counting the Star Wars series, the last independent good scifi show that I recall was The Expanse, the majority of which was pre-Covid. In fairness, Foundation is okay, but not great.

It's funny you mention the expanse because I find it similar to the stargate show. Solid, but in no way extraordinary. Now, I agree sci-fi especially TV has been a bit rough recently, but that's mostly because its not popular so there isnt much made, not anything to do with ability to make it.

Still, there have been sci fi masterpieces released recently. Dune being the most obvious. Not an original story but a far more worthy production than stargate sg-1. Everything everywhere all at once was also more compelling than stargate imo but this might be where your anti woke complaints come in. Nope also fits this bill, but fine you dont have to love that. There are still examples which have no wokeness at all as far as I can tell. I found the foundation show to be similar quality to stargate sg-1, perhaps a bit worse I guess but in no way definitively worse. Topically I found project hail mary to be good enough, certainly no worse than stargate.

SG1 is a masterpiece and one of the greatest pieces of fiction created.

Aesthetics are subjective after all

I think most people here are talking about the Stargate SG-1 TV series and not the movie.

As am I. If the take is just that sci fi movies dont count and only 22 episode seasons count as "real" sci fi we can have that conversation too. It's a valid take that I absolutely disagree with. But that's not how I read the original comment(which has now been edited to remove the woke part)

"modern wokeness", ah, yes. Because the show about religion as a means of control, that featured strong women throughout, was broadly about how colonialism is bad and the importance of respecting different cultures, that brute force was almost never the 'right answer' is anti-woke.

I'm on season 6 of a rewatch with family right now, and I will say that one of the things I had not remembered was just how much of the time brute force IS the right answer in this show.

Many classic scenes like the P90 demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjlCVW_ouL8

Or Carter's literal first scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi4lt-17OxE

And so on

All the women roles were reasonable back then. Actual characters you could get behind. Now it’s going to be some nonsense like an all woman crew every one of them aping male behavior. It’s off putting and something most men would have a hard time watching.

For example, look at all the recent Star Trek series; they have been an abomination, and are rightfully canceled.

State, don't insinuate.

Ah, yes. That great anti-woke series Star Trek.

I’ve seen those shows and still don’t know what you mean. Since you didn’t mean the other stuff you’ll need to be more explicit

"Modern woke' would have Samantha Carter be be a quadriplegic trans person of color in a complicated polycule whose father was killed by American forces and one of the many overseas illegal activities. Sam is just so smart, though, they have to give zher clearance (and at least one of the episodes will be about respecting pronouns)

you're living in a fantasy world besieged by an ideology that doesn't actually exist

Nah, just exaggerating.

Note: read about the new Wonder Woman reboot after writing original

As for those on 'the spectrum', as per today's news, it may be interesting to know that a cause of it could be copper deficiency during early brain development: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48377066

Polymarket is not decentralized or rule-driven, and it does not represent crypto values. The crypto community has a long way to go in actually making a prediction market that is rule-driven and not subject to the whims of corrupt staff.

Code being law is the ultimate social justice. This is not antisocial; it is maximally social at a deeper level. In much of the world, code not being law is what opens the door to the most corruption, also in this example. Had the prediction market actually have been engineered to be driven by code, the bet would have resolved on its own. It should teach us to strive toward an actual decentralized rule-based market.

I use to love "code is law" when i was an engineering student. Then i worked in the real world, and discovered how dumb i was. Code is code, it's flawed, it's bugged, it's old and very hard to update to account for new reality, it cannot account for all edgecase in projects with much easier rules than "law", and ultimately, an unaccountable engineer with no real stakes in the result (except maybe employment, which until 2024 was _not_ a real stake) has the last word.

The shoddy "engineering" that you're used to in the business world is not actually proper engineering; it never was.

Consider cryptocurrencies and smart contracts -- they work perfectly fine with millions of transactions daily, all executed by perfectly correct code -- that's real engineering. Mature programming languages also are good examples of real engineering.

Of course everything needs updates to account for edge cases, but tackling these correctly only makes the engineering more sound, not less sound.

In the real world, the selective application of law commonly is more likely to take away rights than to grant rights.

The issue is that the prediction market is not decentralized, that the bet resolution is not actually controlled by code.

Huh. Crypto values always have been that code is law. In the case of this prediction market, the resolution is not strictly controlled by code. It is not a decentralized system and it does not espouse crypto values.

Even lab grown red meat will have major issues with inflammatory foreign sialic acid. That's unless a genetic strain is used that has only human-compatible sialic acid.

Red meat, meaning pork/beef/lamb/goat, independent of its source, contains human-incompatible sialic acid, which our immune system attacks. This foreign sialic acid even gets used up in our tissues, and then our immune system attacks our own tissues. It takes decades for this to become sufficiently inflammatory and destructive. Even cow milk is not spared. Only hydrolyzed collagen is likely to be very low in such foreign sialic acid.

To understand, these researched NotebookLM videos will explain:

https://youtu.be/wkmOKQZP_ak ⤷ Neu5Gc: Medical Mystery

That’s a very unsettled and debated topic. Speculative harms are not going to override very real daily pleasures from meat meals.

It's not that speculative, considering it the reason why in tissue transplants derived from animals, the transplants are specially engineered to not have this reactive substance. There is just no arguing with the hard data that the substance is foreign, is incorporated into our tissues, and is attacked by our immune system. The only debate is about the extent of the resulting inflammation.

Inflammation is a bit like nuclear fission, in that when a lot of inflammatory sources come together, the resulting runaway outcome is very bad, like civil war in the body. Rheumatoid arthritis, hard atherosclerotic plaque, and colorectal cancer are the result.

A carnivore diet leads to ghoulish dreams of mass murder. There only pleasure from is on the way down.

There are plenty of meat eaters with critical vitamin insufficiencies, even of B12. Animals that are fed mostly a corn diet aren't exactly going to contain much of micronutrients in their meat. Micronutrient supplements provide a much more reliable solution. I still rely on animals for hydrolyzed collagen and fish oil, but that's all.
