Don’t like Anthropic? Use a competing service. At this point the sheer volume of your commentary is not particularly complimentary to your own critical thinking skills. It’s not your job to correct the internet or to convince randoms of the rightness of your position. Of all the things in the world to be pissed at so insistently, this seems to be a pretty minor one.
> If all parties decide to lay down their weapons there would be peace tomorrow.
Which is why there will never be peace - tomorrow or any other day - because Israel wants everyone else to disarm, excluding themselves. How else are they going to keep expanding their settlements and keep the Palestinians in increasingly fragmented and shrinking bantustans?
There's nothing Israelis want more than give up their military. but when countries like Iran vow to "wipe israel off the map" and Hamas states in its covenant to annhilate all jews, what sane country would give up its army?
Second, Israel does not expand. On the contrary - Israel returned the Sinai Desert which is a territory x3 times its size back to Egypt for peace.
> There's nothing Israelis want more than give up their military.
Watch this and tell me that your statement still holds true. Israel has descended to the level of the worst of its enemies. There is no moral high ground left.
All communities eventually become a reflection of the society they are a part of. Even a willingly insular and sometimes wilfully ignorant one. Did you think this corner of the internet - your beautiful little garden - could survive unscathed while the rest of the world and the rest of your country slowly/quickly goes mad? The visitors to this little garden may spend a lot of time here trying not to let the outside world in - but the reality is we all live in that slowly rotting society, so don’t be surprised when the infection seeps in even here.
I said I was ashamed, not surprised. It isn't surprising, and the feeling comes with the job every day. The difference is that I said something about it this time; I occasionally do, as long as it isn't often. Maybe once a year or so.
Fair enough. You’re human too. Thank you for the job you do. As quixotic as t sometimes appears I value the effort and it’s a big part of why this forum has stayed cleaner than others. Please don’t be disheartened. Discussions like these prove the point of difference of HN to other fora. Vitriol is a relative rarity here. We should all keep striving to preserve that.
> Whoever is writing this seems to have absolutely no clue how AI works.
The question isn’t really about how AI works. It’s about how Google (the company) works. Do their actions match their stated intentions? Which is really a question of trust. Are they incentivised to lie? Yes. Are they likely to survive a disclosure scandal? Facebook’s experience inclines me to believe yes.
You have repeatedly stated you’d be happy for the US to shut its bases in Europe and pull their troops out, and stop funding NATO. Do you believe it should take the same stance with Israel? If not, why not?
I think it would be good for the world to see the reality of society around the world. So, yeah. Everything, everywhere at the same time.
Let's see Europe protect itself. Let's see the Middle East decide if they are a region that wants to support world terrorism or --on their own-- achieve peace. Let's see if China helps anybody.
I am perfectly comfortable with at least a one decade pullback. I see no reason for US citizens to subsidize countries all over the world to the tune of over $80 billion dollars and absolutely burn far more than that protecting Europe and others. Pull that back 100% and let's see what the world looks like. Invest that money internally on real infrastructure (not California bullshit projects that never get done), education, healthcare, housing and so many things we need far more than protecting the universe.
Yeah, I'd vote for that. I am sick un thankless nations always pointing a finger at the US. Let's eliminate that target and see how places like Spain and the UK and others do when they need help and we are busy watching it from across the ocean.
How about arithmetic coding? That will give you the highest amount of entropy reduction for any possible number of containers. Which probably means that you’ll sort similar pieces far apart but group by colors that are easy to separate, like red+yellow, brown+green
It's still a victory. It postpones Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities by a decade, and kicks the can down the road so another administration can come back and clean up the mess again.
