What did archive do?

There's a few links in sibling comments. But basically they are collecting some identifying data to try to optimize load times, but if they don't get that data they just reject the request instead of allowing for longer load times. Archive promises that they throw away that data and aren't tracking users but I mean why rely on trust? And as others point out, there are weird aspects of the code too so even if you trust what about mistakes? And btw, it isn't just cloudflare that's affected.

that's the story Cloudflare wants you to buy.

Archive is intentionally violating copyright, and needs to know which country you're coming from, so they can serve you content from a country that isn't yours. they need that information to protect the service and keep it running.

I definitely am not buying that, especially since it isn't just Cloudflare users being affected, including Quad9, or the wiki[1] which claims the issue was resolved. Note that I can't reach them from cloudflare or even with mullvad's DNS. Not giving me faith tbh. See the linked thread and the links from there for more info[0]. And I trust Cloudflare way more than one guy who users are having difficulties with answering emails[2]. Sure, maybe he gets too many and is only one person, but that gives me less faith that things are being done correctly. Or see weird comments from this hn thread[3]

I was thinking of much larger numbers here.

Once upon a time had to use google experiments to get schedule send in Gmail. I didn't know it was added sometime back in 2019 as standard feature. Just wanted to share with everyone who missed the launch of this feature.

You might want to check out GoG Galaxy. It has integrations to Steam/Epic/Origin/Uplay/etc and provides a single user interface to manage your purchases across these platforms.

Also, consoles have exclusives too. I choose PC over console anyday.

I really like the idea of a purchase being decoupled from the distribution. GOG(completely) and HumbleBundle (limited extent) seems to be the only option at the moment.

The new GoG galaxy is wonderful (even though some times it loses my steam integration and I have to log in again), it will make your life so much easier, you can really manage everything from 1 place.

Playnite is another software offering something similar, and is also quite good.

> The new GoG galaxy is wonderful

GoG Galaxy was a bad idea that undermined GoG almost immediately.

They still market themselves as "GOG.COM, the DRM-free home for a curated selection of games". But there are two forms of DRM they allow.

#1, you can't use multiplayer without providing a registration code.

#2, you can't play the game unless you're running Galaxy in the background.

I have a hard time believing they honestly think "well, DRM is a bad thing in general, but not when we're doing it".

What are some arguments to be made against git?

What do you mean by macOS' terminal environment is hopelessly out of date?

Not OP, but guessing it's things like having Python 2 instead of Python 3 installed out of the box. It took them forever to update to Git version > 2.0.0 too.

probably because we park our cars, instead of giving them away when we reach our destination, and getting one when we need to go again.
